{"id":2044,"date":"2020-12-22T18:42:08","date_gmt":"2020-12-22T18:42:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/finden.jaysoft.asia\/?p=2044"},"modified":"2020-12-22T18:57:02","modified_gmt":"2020-12-22T18:57:02","slug":"what-is-a-china-company-operating-period","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/findenchina.com\/ja\/what-is-a-china-company-operating-period\/","title":{"rendered":"What is a China Company Operating Period?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0China company operating period is\u00a0usually represented by two dates, which are specified on a\u00a0Chinese business license.<\/p>\n<p>It is the\u00a0span between the date of incorporation &#8211; the first of these dates &#8211; and the expiry date of the company&#8217;s registration &#8211; the second.<\/p>\n<p>In some cases, a China company operating period\u00a0may be open-ended, meaning no specific expiry date is specified.<\/p>\n<h2>What is a China Company Operating Period?<\/h2>\n<p>When companies are registered in China, they are usually registered for a defined period, which is displayed on their\u00a0business license\u00a0and company registration file.<\/p>\n<p>In theory, this means that the company\u00a0could\u00a0be dissolved at the end of their operating period, but in practice\u00a0a business license\u00a0will be renewed with the local authorities without too much difficulty.<\/p>\n<p>If you view a Chinese company&#8217;s business license, their operating period &#8220;\u8425\u4e1a\u671f\u9650&#8221; (y\u00edngy\u00e8 q\u00edxi\u00e0n) is usually clearly displayed.<\/p>\n<p>Sometime only the date of incorporation is specified because the operating period is open-ended. More on that later.<\/p>\n<p>In most cases though, this includes two dates (date of incorporation and expiry date) separated by the character &#8220;\u81f3&#8221;:<\/p>\n<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0897\/6846\/files\/cf835d1e9d5d3912f48e56ef6ddd4f6e_480x480.png?v=1603679042\" alt=\"Operating Period on China Business License\" \/><figcaption>Operating Period specified on a China Business License<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>As you\u00a0can see, the China company operating period is specified using the Chinese language, so\u00a0to make sense of the data you&#8217;ll first need to learn how dates are written in Chinese.<\/p>\n<h2>How are Dates Written in Chinese?<\/h2>\n<p>Modern-day China\u00a0has aligned with\u00a0most of the world and follows the\u00a0Gregorian calendar. The traditional Chinese lunar calendar is almost never used for business purposes these days.<\/p>\n<p>In Chinese, dates are always written in the order &#8220;year, month, day&#8221; which are represented by the following characters:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u5e74 (ni\u00e1n) &#8211; meaning &#8220;year&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>\u6708 (yu\u00e8) &#8211; meaning &#8220;month&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>\u65e5 (r\u00ec) &#8211; meaning &#8220;day&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In most cases the numbers are written using Arabic numerals, but sometimes the Chinese characters for numbers are used instead.<\/p>\n<p>Examples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2020\u5e745\u670813\u65e5\u00a0means\u00a0&#8220;13 May 2020&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>1999\u5e7412\u67088\u65e5\u00a0means &#8220;8 December 1999&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>2012\u5e743\u670830\u65e5 means &#8220;30 March 2012&#8221;<\/li>\n<li>\u4e8c\u96f6\u4e00\u4e03\u5e74\u516d\u6708\u4e8c\u5341\u4e00\u65e5\u00a0means\u00a0&#8220;21 June 2017&#8221; (Chinese numbers in red)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note: sometimes the character \u53f7 (h\u00e0o) &#8211;\u00a0which means &#8220;number&#8221; &#8211; is used instead of \u65e5 to represent the day:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2008\u5e748\u670815\u53f7 means &#8220;15 August 2008&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Operating Period for Foreign Invested Companies<\/h2>\n<p>The operating period\u00a0of a Chinese company depends on the\u00a0type of company registration.<\/p>\n<p>For foreign invested companies, an operating period of 20 years is typical,\u00a0and there is an upper limit of 30 years in place.<\/p>\n<h2>Open-Ended Operating Periods<\/h2>\n<p>As mentioned earlier, some China company operating periods are open-ended, meaning that there is no registration expiry date specified.<\/p>\n<p>This situation has become increasingly common in recent years and the various registration authorities have developed different ways to record this on both business licenses and\u00a0registration databases.<\/p>\n<p>Here are some of the different ways the &#8220;expiry date&#8221; on\u00a0open-ended operating periods can be specified:<\/p>\n<h3>Expiry\u00a0Date Far In The Future<\/h3>\n<p>Especially common on databases, the expiry date is set at a date unrealistically far into the future, meaning their registration is in effect open-ended. Examples of this include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>5000\u5e7401\u670801\u65e5<\/li>\n<li>8888\u5e7408\u670808\u65e5<\/li>\n<li>9999\u5e7409\u670809\u65e5<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Expiry\u00a0Date Blank or No Value<\/h3>\n<p>In recent years we have seen many\u00a0business licenses where no data for the expiry date is given. The relevant space is either crossed out or left blank, like this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>*************<\/li>\n<li>XXXXXXXXX<\/li>\n<li>___________<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Understandably this can\u00a0cause some confusion, and\u00a0it was actually\u00a0an enquiry relating to this issue which gave us the inspiration to prepare this article.<\/p>\n<h3>Expiry Date Replaced With Text<\/h3>\n<p>Another way to display an open-ended operating period, which is becoming increasingly common is to replace the expiry date with a Chinese word which indicates this.
